Charles Sturt University’s Gulbali Institute, in collaboration with Professor Dale Nimmo’s research group, is inviting domestic PhD candidates to explore how terrestrial animals respond to altered fire regimes. This project is at the forefront of understanding the adaptive behavioural strategies of wildlife amid the increasing frequency and intensity of fires driven by climate change.

Fires have long been a natural force shaping terrestrial ecosystems, yet the nuanced behavioural responses of animals to different fire types remain underexplored. By linking behavioural adaptations to specific fire regimes, the research aims to generate evidence-based recommendations that can guide wildlife-friendly fire management practices and enhance biodiversity conservation efforts in fire-prone areas.

Scholarship Details
• Stipend: $35,000 per annum, payable fortnightly.
• Eligibility: Open to domestic candidates.
