Master of Research: Landscape ecology of brush-tailed rock-wallabies in Queensland, University of Southern Queensland, QLD

Brush-tailed rock-wallabies rely on rugged terrain and rocky escarpments for shelter and protection. Dispersal habitat between these rocky habitats is largely agricultural landscapes, creating a risk to wallabies as they move between habitat patches in an open, fragmented landscape.

This student project will extend on an existing research project involving an assessment of gene flow amongst brush-tailed rock-wallaby colonies in Qld. The student project will involve camera trap monitoring on Land for Wildlife properties, Main Range National Park, Mount Barney National Park and Moogerah Peaks National Park. Landscape connectivity will be modelled using Circuitscape to identify areas that facilitate movement to identify priority landscape corridors for threat abatement. Operational funding is available to cover equipment and field work costs with field work to commence in July.

This project is based at the Wildlife Research Group in the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Systems at the University of Southern Queensland.
