The Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA) is presenting a two day “hands-on” workshop that introduces attendees to contaminant fate and transport analysis using the RISC software developed by Lynn Spence on June 16 & 17 in Sydney.

RISC has been used extensively on a global basis, to undertake Tier 2 health risk assessment. Through the use of this software attendees gain an appreciation of the principles that underpin contaminant fate and transport analysis, this provides the building blocks to enable conceptual site models to built (in a quantitative manner) and enable Tier 2 health risk assessment to be performed (using RISC and other software packages/spread sheet based systems etc.).

This is a great opportunity to learn from someone who has significant insight in the practicalities of performing health risk assessment, methods of risk mitigation and policy issues that underpin risk based decision making. Lynn stresses that this course is not just a software class, rather the aim is to teach/educate on what type of fate and transport analysis is typically performed for health risk assessment.

Who should attend? – this class is ideally suited to consultants and regulators who have some knowledge of Tier 1 guidelines and CSMs and want to build on these skills to become more competent in performing/understanding contaminant fate and transport analysis and Tier 2 health risk assessment. It is assumed that attendees will have level of understanding of the health risk assessment process. Attending the one day 101 health risk class at the start of the conference will provide the attendee with sufficient knowledge to complete this class.
