This bumper winter Issue showcases leading research by some of Australia's premier ecologists and their students. In this issue we focus on landscape and restoration ecology of terrestrial ecosystems, with a special report from ANU postdoctoral fellow Karen Ikin on landscape use by birds in urban areas. Research by Richard Hobbs, leader of the restoration and intervention ecology group at UWA, and his colleagues is featured in the regular Labs in the Limelight section – his multi-dimensional ordination of lab members based on their research interests will certainly put a grin on your face!

Also in this issue the Society announces the winners of two prestigious student awards: The Nature Conservancy Applied Conservation Award (won by Lachlan Fetterplace, University of Wollongong) and the Jill Landsberg Trust Fund Scholarship (awarded to Daniel Bateman, Macquarie University), both of whom are working in the field of marine conservation biology – well done to both of these students, and many thanks to our TNC and JLTF partners for their continuing support of these important conservation scholarships!
